Zemba Luzamba is a painter born and raised in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Having moved to South Africa to fully pursue his career as an artist, he’s since exhibited his work in the UK, US and the Ivory Coast. Inspired by the Sapeurs—the people of the flamboyantly fashionable subculture La Sape that originated in his homeland—his subjects are always dressed to impress, but beneath the surface there are deeper meanings to be uncovered; stories of hope and rebirth, about the lives of African migrants and everyday life in the Congo.
