Our dear friends at International Documentary Festival Amsterdam return to theaters in November to present another amazing selection of exciting films from across the globe. We're teaming up again this year to host a special WePresent night and screen one of this year's standouts (in our eyes at least). Join us at the EYE Cinema on November 17th for Lea Glob's deeply intimate film “Apolonia, Apolonia.”
The film
In “Apolonia, Apolonia,” director Lea Globo spends 13 years shadowing young French painter Apolonia, from her time studying at the prestigious Beaux-Arts de Paris, and beyond as she tries to find her feet in the art world. As the two women grow closer and become more and more intertwined in one another’s lives, we see Apolonia’s story unfold, from her intimate relationships to the highs and lows of trying to make it in the industry. “Apolonia, Apolonia” touches on sexuality, freedom of expression, and representation, and it also paints a picture of life as an artist today, as hopes are raised and dashed and raised again in the pursuit of getting your work seen by the world.
