Nottingham-based musician Yazmin Lacey fuses soul, RnB and jazz influences into her work, which is definitively UK-grown, but universal in its ability to move people. Having spent her childhood writing songs in her bedroom in East London, Yazmin began to play acoustic shows in 2014. As her reputation grew in Nottingham, she came to meet the diverse group of musicians who would form her band The Running Circle. Her first physical release was “Black Moon” EP - recorded in a makeshift living room studio, it was selected by DJ Gilles Peterson to be BBC Radio 6’s Record of The Week in June 2017. Gilles caught up with Yazmin for WePresent as part of a series in which he hosts live sessions with innovative and important musicians you’ve (probably) never heard of.
