In his large-scale, kinetic installations, Berlin-based artist Nils Völker transforms everyday materials and objects into volumetric structures. Whether it’s trash bags, computer fans, paddling pools, or frisbees, Nils has a knack for turning the mundane into something elegant and graceful. For the project “Twenty Four,” he used 384 invisible fans to elevate 24 plastic bags among the grand pillars of the Saint-Nicolas church in Caen, each one rising and falling in a mesmerizing Mexican wave. His installations have been exhibited across the world and are always site-specific—making the most of shape, size, architectural environment, and whatever objects he has on-hand.
