British author and director Neil Bartlett has staged plays at some of the UK’s most prestigious institutions, including The National, Bristol Old Vic, and the Lyric Hammersmith, where he served as artistic director from 1994 to 2004. He has translated and adapted a number of foreign classics for English audiences, including works by Jean Genet, Molière, Heinrich von Kleist, and was appointed an OBE in 2000 for his services to the arts. A vocal advocate for gay culture and civil rights, Bartlett was awarded an honorary degree by Brookes University Oxford for his efforts in 2008; and in 2023, he directed BLUE NOW, a series of live performances of Derek Jarman’s seminal film “Blue,” presented by WeTransfer.
