Born and raised in Melbourne, Mildlife are a four-piece band consisting of Tomas Shanahan, Kevin McDowell, Jim Rindfleish, and Adam Halliwell. They’ve become known for a sound of their own: a sort of jazz-kraut-psych-disco hybrid. In 2018, they were part of a special series on WePresent curated by Gilles Peterson, one of the world’s most influential DJs. Filmed as a series of live sessions, the band performed some of their biggest hits, and chatted about creative pain and the difference between Brits and Australians. Mildlife’s second album, “Automatic,” won the ARIA Award for Best Jazz Album.
