After working for two decades as a creative director in Amsterdam, the Spanish-born artist Luis Mendo decided he needed a change. Now based in Tokyo – a city that has become his creative muse – the artist and illustrator’s body of work has grown exponentially. Luis’s drawings are intricate and elegant, and often capture bustling scenes of urban life; whether that’s a busy restaurant kitchen, a horizon of skyscrapers or commuters boarding the subway. His use of color is always measured and precise; highlighting the vibrancy of a certain object, like the gold of a sunset or the redness of a telephone tower. Luis has created illustrations for the New York Times, Apple, Wired, the Washington Post, and many more.
