Ildolidia Ramos is the lead dancer and manager of Raices Profundas, one of the most respected dance troupes in Cuba. The troupe was established in 1975 by Ildolidia’s father, and she prides herself on encapsulating the ancient and vibrant spirit of Afro-Cuban folklore, and translating it into choreography that tells the story of Cuba’s complex history. Ildolidia was one of five Cuban artists we profiled in a series of short films about the country that delved beneath the mainstream representation of Cuban culture to tell a deeper contemporary story.
