Associate Professor of Architecture at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Joshua Vermillion has been experimenting with AI tools within the design process—and encouraging his students to do the same—since 2022. His work depicts cave-like rooms that appear to be made from eroded wax and gallery spaces filled with luminous latex bladders or intricately draped fabrics. He believes this technology could help streamline collaborative work by reducing time spent sketching or modelling concepts at an early stage in a project, allowing architects to visualize extraordinary spaces—and communicate the ideas in their heads—in a heartbeat.
