British writer and artist Jay Bernard maintains a critical, queer, and cross-disciplinary practice, rooted in archival research. In 2020, they were named The Sunday Times / University of Warwick Young Writer of the Year, and are they are the recipient of the 2017 Ted Hughes Award for Surge: Side A, a poetry performance about the 1981 New Cross Fire. Their short films, artwork and literary collections have been exhibited at film festivals and galleries around the UK. In 2023, Bernard was part of BLUE NOW, a series of live performances of Derek Jarman's seminal film “Blue,” presented by WeTransfer.
