British DJ and broadcaster Gilles Peterson has been one of the world’s most influential DJs for three decades, and has been crucial to the promotion and proliferation of underground jazz, hip-hop, and electronic music. An important voice in radio, Gilles hosts the BBC’s popular Radio 6 Music show, and is the founder of online radio station Worldwide FM. He’s also the founder of the record labels Acid Jazz, Talkin’ Loud and, most recently, Brownswood Recordings. Gilles is something of a regular around these parts: In 2016, he was named WeTransfer’s creative director, and he has collaborated closely with the WePresent team ever since. In a 2017 video series, Gilles hosted monthly live sessions with innovative musicians you’ve (probably) never heard of. The following year, he featured as the host of “The Psychology of DJing,” a WePresent podcast for which he interviewed five of his favorite DJs to explore life behind the turntables. He also opened up about how he approaches selecting the final track of a set in our article The Last Song.
