Eriko Masaoka is a Japanese photographer living and working in France. After graduating from a photography course in Osaka in 2005, she traveled to Hokkaido, Japan’s northernmost island, taking photos along the way. We featured her new book, “In the Flap of a Bird's Wing, Water Dries Up,” shot over years of traveling to similarly remote areas, capturing people, animals and objects with the same haunting energy.
