Singaporean-Chinese documentary photographer Charmaine Poh’s portrait-inspired artistic practice has led her to such high-profile surroundings as the New York Times, i-D, The International Center of Photography, and Tate Modern. She’s also the founder of studio Almost June, working outwards from portraiture to help brands and institutions put humanity at the center of their public profiles. It’s little surprise that she was included in Forbes Asia’s “30 under 30 in The Arts” in 2019, and also in the Singapore Pavilion at 2021’s Venice Architecture Biennale. Her photographic gaze ranges across the performed labor of the everyday, the gendered body, and the intersection of offline and online worlds. WePresent featured her series “How She Loves” on queer women in Singapore as part of Through the Prism of Pride, a multi-artist collection of stories from LGBTQ+ communities around the world.
