Award-winning Chinese artist Cai Guo-Qiang is perhaps best-known for his most ambitious creation, “Sky Ladder,” a 1,650-foot-tall ladder of fire that he installed in his hometown of Quanzhou. The contemporary artist is famed for his gunpowder paintings and explosion events, which, in their transcendent nature, explore the duality of creation and destruction. Over the years, he has worked with a broad range of creative mediums, from painting, installation, video art, and performance art, to VR, AR, NFTs, blockchain, and artificial intelligence, and has exhibited globally at major museums, including MoMA and Guggenheim. cAI™ is one his most recent projects, the artist’s custom-built AI program that learns from his oeuvre, and, according to the artist, has the potential to create independently one day.
