Alain de Botton was born in Zurich, Switzerland in 1969 and now lives in London. He’s a writer of essayistic books that have been described as a “philosophy of everyday life.” He’s written on love, travel, architecture, and literature, and his books have been bestsellers in 30 countries. Alain also founded and helps to run a school in London called The School of Life, which is dedicated to a new vision of education. We invited Alain to be part of our Manifesto series, where activists and creatives with something to say to share their own rules to live by. His manifesto features eight powerful affirmations that can be returned to in moments of trial and crisis.
